Decorating the Trek's Handle Bars

When I completed the Trek's makeover recently, I'd intended to cover up the odd feeling, jelly-like grips to provide extra cushion and style, yet at the time, couldn't envision exactly what that was. I went to the fabric store to get inspired and brought home red wool and giraffe-print fleece. I slipped tubes of fleece over the foam bar ends, that benefited one shabby grip, then tightly wrapped strips of both materials so my hands felt better - albeit gloved hands - in the neutral position. I secured the material with waxed thread.

This is bicycle love.

  1. You are so creative. I love how that looks, and I’ll bet it feels a lot better now. I love this bike.

  2. Thanks Kendra! I'm riding the Trek exclusively now due to salted New England roads. Since I decorated the bars and my bike stays outside at my workplace, they've endured a couple rain showers and the grips soak up moisture like a sponge! But still, the project was fun and hopefully we're back to colder, drier weather.

  3. "Since I decorated the bars and my bike stays outside at my workplace". I read that as - you had decorated your bars and bike stays outside at your workplace.....couldn't see any decoration on your stays, then realized my mistake! Lovely job!

  4. Hmm, your blog feed seems to have died. Click on the link to "anniebikes" on my own blog. Lots of meaningless text. I get the same thing if I click on the link to your blog from Rantwick's place.

    1. Thanks Steve. Not sure what to do about it though.

  5. I'm having the same issue on my blog link for you and another RSS link/feed. I haven't quite figured out how to resolve the issue, but if I do get an answer, I'd be happy to pass along the info, if you'd like.

Love what you've done with your grips here, Annie! The Trek looks fantastic. :)

    1. Thanks, GE. I reported the issue to Blogger, but I'm not holding my breath they will resolve the issue. Remember when they deleted our side bar links to other blogs? What a PIA that was resetting (and remembering) all the sites we commonly look at.

    2. Probably the best place to start - with a report to Blogger. I would think others have had the issue too, so hopefully it will get resolved easily... and yes, that was horrible with our links disappearing!
