Ducks and Solitude

30 F, quiet and calm

I've spent many frosty mornings on our waterfront path, pedaling in contemplative quiet. The hordes of fall tourists are long gone as winter is trying - albeit very slowly - to enter the Champlain Valley. The ground is dry and sunshine warms the soul.

It is officially boot weather. Lake level is low and ducks quack and congregate on sandbars, fluffing feathers.

The hub and I got away for an overnight in Lake Placid. We hiked twice, first to a breathtaking summit and then to a frozen glassy-looking lake. I love the crunch of rime ice underfoot.

This is the view from our cabin.

It doesn't get any better than this!
