Have Credit Card and the Lure of the Open Road

There are many days of my commute to work where the conditions are perfect. I'm in decent riding shape. The sun is shining. It's neither too hot nor too cold. A slight tailwind sweeps me along, making the uphills pleasant. My mind wanders... Birds are chirping. I pass cyclists on their jaunt into Burlington while I'm leaving the city. All nod or say "hello". Even the cows are spirited, chewing and flicking their tails, with an occasional lift of their heads to recognize my bike.

It's that kind on morning when I forget to turn down the dirt road for the last mile to my workplace. It's the tiny road on the left. Okay, there I've said it. I actually forget to turn and have to backtrack!

I was daydreaming about how easy it would be to just keep cycling...blow off work, even responsibilities at home. I have a credit card in my pocket, a set of panniers, a change of clothes, a water bottle. It would be easy to purchase a sleeping bag and tent, any additional clothing. How incredibly freeing to go for days or weeks for wherever the pedals will take me. I'm almost embarrassed to say that this dream occurs with frequency.

Impulse touring?
